Berries

Wholesale Berries, Handled Like They Are Perishable

Berries are the least forgiving item in fresh produce. They arrive with a shelf life already partly spent, and every hour outside the right temperature takes another day off the back end. Harvest Sensations distributes berries nationwide from Miami and Los Angeles, with the import lanes and cold-chain discipline the category demands.

Because we buy across both South American and domestic seasons, we can hold a berry program through the shoulder months when single-source suppliers gap.

Berries We Distribute

  • Blueberries — the longest-holding berry and the anchor of most programs.
  • Blackberries — large-cell fruit with good gloss and low leak.
  • Raspberries — the most fragile item on the list and the one that most rewards fast handling.

The Rules That Decide Berry Shelf Life

Keep them at 32–34°F, which is colder than most walk-ins actually run. Never wash before storage — surface water is what starts mold. Never stack clamshells more than two high; the bottom layer crushes and one leaking berry infects the whole pack. And check the underside of the clamshell, not the top: a pack that looks perfect from above will show you the truth from below.

Berries are also strong ethylene responders in the wrong direction: they do not ripen further after harvest. Whatever sugar is in the fruit when it is picked is all it will ever have, which is why sourcing matters more here than in almost any other category.

Buying Berries Without Getting Burned

Berry markets move violently and weekly. When a growing region gets rain, prices double and quality drops at the same time. We would rather tell you a week is bad and let you pull the item off the special than ship you fruit that arrives soft. That is what the weekly market outlook is for.
